Find your place on Team 3944.

You do not need to arrive knowing how to build a robot. Bring curiosity, patience, and a willingness to learn beside your teammates. We will teach the tools, systems, and habits that turn a first idea into a competition-ready machine.

For Tempe Prep students in grades 7–12

First Requirement: Enthusiasm.

The All Knights welcomes students at every experience level. Some members arrive already interested in programming or mechanical design. Others are simply curious about how a robot moves, how a team funds a season, or what happens when a design fails.

You can work in CAD and fabrication, write Java code, wire electronics, plan match strategy, tell the team's story, or help build sponsor relationships. Most students try more than one area, and every contribution becomes part of the same robot.

No prior robotics experience necessary

Build season runs from January through April, and additional work sessions may be added as competitions approach. Contact the team before your first visit so we can welcome you and confirm the current schedule.

For mentors and community volunteers

Share what experience has taught you.

Our mentors are professionals and community members who volunteer their time to help students reason through real engineering decisions. The goal is not to build the robot for them; it is to ask the question, demonstrate the tool, or share the context that helps a student take the next step.

Robotics experience is welcome but not required. Project management, graphic design, marketing, machining, software, electronics, finance, logistics, and many other professional skills all have a place in an FRC season.

Frequently asked questions

Tempe Prep students in grades 7–12 can participate. Seventh- and eighth-grade students joined the FRC program after TPA's VEX program concluded in 2022 and have proven they can learn and compete alongside the high school team.

None! We teach everything from CAD and fabrication to Java programming and scouting strategy. The only requirement is a willingness to learn and work as part of a team.

Regular club meetings are Thursdays and Fridays from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Build season runs January through April, when additional sessions may be scheduled as competition deadlines approach.

Meetings are working sessions. Depending on the season, students may sketch and review a mechanism, model parts in CAD, manufacture a prototype, wire or program the robot, test on the practice field, plan outreach, or prepare for an event. There is usually more than one useful task available — and yes, there is a snack closet.

Parents play a vital role! You can volunteer as a mentor, help with event logistics, chaperone at competitions, assist with fundraising, or simply spread the word in the community.

We meet in the Clubhouse on campus at Tempe Preparatory Academy, 1251 E. Southern Avenue in Tempe, Arizona.
